Oceanside sits on the North San Diego County coast between Camp Pendleton and Carlsbad, with Oceanside Harbor providing reliable access to some of Southern California's most productive fishing grounds. The area marks a transition zone between the warmer waters of the Southern California Bight and the cooler upwelling influence of the northern coast. White seabass appear from March through June, favoring the squid beds near the kelp. Barracuda run the surface from May through August, and bonito provide fast action year-round.
